3 rules for stopping Nazis

3 rules for stopping Nazis
Bourke Street, Naarm (Melbourne, Australia)

Last Sunday (31 August 2025) I attended the counter protest against the anti-immigration rally in Melbourne that involved the neo-Nazi organisation, the National Socialist Network. Due to not wearing any identifying clothing and being white, once the police had dispersed us, I was able to move among the anti-immigration protesters unhindered.

The documentary "The Antifacists" sets out 3 principles for stopping Nazis:

  1. Deconstruct the slogans of fascists because they don't actually have an ideology they only have slogans, they take ideas from the left and right, for example, "the problems are caused by the immigrants and not by bankers" or "life will be better for the common people if we get rid of the immigrants" or something similar - we must deconstruct this!
  2. Do not allow them to terrorise the streets because they don't gather strength by their arguments, they gather strength by terrorising people - we should never allow this, we should form an anti-fascist mass movement that does not allow them to do this, that counters them on the street - we cannot accept this!
  3. Do not allow fascists to have a presence in the institutions and organisations of civil society, we can't allow them to come into trade unions, cultural clubs, the musical milieu, into the football matches, this is very important, because if you allow them to appear there, we legitimise them, you don't discuss with them, you say, "you are an enemy and I don't accept your existence!"

Not 1, not 2, but all 3 principles are needed to stop Nazis...
